Praise for Sounders FC: Authentic Masterpiece
An entertaining, thoughtful examination that will appeal not only to soccer fans but to anyone interested in the business of sports. The Sounders have yet to win an MLS Cup, but Gastineau has scored with this vivid history.
Take away the names and the places from Gastineau’s writing, and what you really get is this: an examination of American soccer’s quest for authenticity. It’s very well written, and I’d recommend that you read it.
A good journalist recognizes a dynamite story and that’s exactly what Gas has done with the Sounders. Combining his extensive list of contacts with his innate curiosity and natural interview skills, Gas has asked the right questions and told the tale of the team Seattle fell in love with.
It is the personal stories that Gastineau captures best. Not, the numbers or lists of major events he dives into, but the people that made this thing that is Sounders FC what it is.
Reading it promises to be as close as any fan will get to the executive suite of a Seattle sports team—and it’s full of interesting insights about the Seahawks as well.
This is a book many sports fans, and especially those who love soccer, will enjoy. I also believe it should be a must read for anyone in sports management or sports marketing and for the owners and all senior management of the new Major League Soccer franchises.
