About Mike Gastineau

Mike Gastineau has been a fixture in the Seattle sports community since his arrival in June of 1991. In a business where loyalty and longevity are rarely used in the same sentence his 21-year career at KJR Radio screams out both. During his time at KJR Gas created the KJR Kares-a-thon, a yearly charity radio show that raised over $1.5 million for various Puget Sound-area charities.

SEAHAWKS CURRENT POSITION UNIMAGINABLE FOUR YEARS AGO

By |2020-04-02T16:57:18-07:00January 6th, 2014|

Four years ago this Saturday the Seahawks hired Pete Carroll to be their head coach. In the midst of one of the headiest seasons any Seattle team has ever enjoyed it’s difficult to remember that at the time the Seahawks were not only questioned (by media and fans alike) for the hire but were also portrayed [...]

ONE MORE WIN

By |2020-04-02T16:57:35-07:00December 22nd, 2013|

MAY 31st, 1996 Fatigue and a hangover were delivering alternating left right punches to my body as I made my way carefully down the aisle of the Southwest Airlines 737 that would ferry me from Salt Lake City to Seattle. It was mid morning and if all went as expected we'd land in the Emerald City [...]

U MAD? U MAD BRO? UH…WHY?

By |2020-04-02T16:57:36-07:00December 10th, 2013|

Maybe it’s the rain. Maybe it’s the one major professional championship in our city’s history; won of course by a team that doesn’t exist anymore. (Two if you count the Seattle Metropolitans 1917 Stanley Cup win over Montreal. Of course, THEY don’t exist anymore, either.) Maybe it’s the gnawing, unending fear that Big Bertha is permanently [...]

THAT’S LIFE? TO HELL WITH YOU OL’ BLUE EYES

By |2020-04-02T16:57:36-07:00November 8th, 2013|

Twenty years ago next spring Seattle sports fans attended a most awkward going away party at the Seattle Center Coliseum. A decision had been made to remodel the building once the 1994 NBA Playoffs concluded. Fans were rightfully optimistic that the project wouldn't begin until late June; AFTER the top seeded SuperSonics rolled to an NBA [...]

MARCUS HAHNEMANN GETS HIS CHANCE TO SHINE

By |2020-04-02T16:57:36-07:00October 31st, 2013|

About a month ago I got a call from my friend Brian Robinson who invited me to a happy hour/fundraiser at the Columbia Tower Club. I eagerly accepted his invite for three reasons: 1. I love the view from the Columbia Tower Club. 2. The fundraiser involved Sounders players bar tending and raising money for America [...]
